All along the road to the island's capital, Port Louis, there are aspects of the Mauritian flag in many of the small villages in which the local buses drive. Flags can tell you a lot about a country. A flag is a statement of what a country seeks to be; of what its aspirations are, of what its history has been. It also speaks of its people and what you may find in their character should you wish to look. The flag of Mauritius is like a giant rainbow. Vibrant stripes of rich, shining colour, stretched open with pride, a community of colours woven into a single banner, uncomplicated with a simplicity that is unique.
